The two hour drive from Baltimore, Maryland never seems to disappoint. Route 70 to Route 68 provides you beautiful scenery of the same roads MFV has traveled for years now. Feels like Cumberland is becoming home. And that truly is a desire of mine as we explore the DMV to bring exposure to athletics.
I arrived and saw people hard at work. Football in Cumberland, Maryland is a big thing. Every thing shuts down and attention is given to game on hand. This Saturday night game would raise the eyes upon many onlookers wanting to know are the Sentinels back on pace for a chance at another 1A state title as they faced a hungry to win 1-0 Belmont Charter Tigers (another 1A finalist from Philadelphia)?…..
STAYING ON BRAND
Fort Hill is known for, and will always be known for its run heavy, and pass minimum stance. This is however executed to perfection by their superb offensive line. Particularly in this matchup, you saw lineman set up beautifully holes and running lanes which gave their backs plenty of room to takeoff. So that’s why they had a comfortable 44 point lead up until the Tigers scored in the 4th quarter.
Belmont Charter was finding ways to cut off running back advancements and fill gaps. The Sentinels just have so many run packages in their arsenal; it appears impossible to stop. So there should be no question that Fort Hill is staying on brand in its pursuit for a state title!
DEFENSE?
Yes, the Sentinels gave a stellar performance on defense!!! Their line is fast and DB’s give excellent coverage. Some teams make the mistake of thinking you’re going to pass all day on them, and to their SURPRISE, that’s not the case. Their SPEED is the deceptive factor causing opponents to be fooled in to thinking they’re slow (you’ll often see teams complaint about how fast Fort Hill can be.
BIG SHOUTS to the TIGERS and the SENTINELS!!! Keep doing what you’re doing. Listen to those coaches and work hard!!!! MUCH SUCCESS to the both of you.
