“WHOEVER says Patuxent sucks, look at the ******* scoreboard…” were LB Brock Shipman’s words to the world after watching two championships teams battle it on the 2025 1A states stage. The Panthers reigned victorious as they proclaimed their motto of being the “King Slayers” (taking down the juggernaut Dunbar Poets in the 2024 states and now the Fort Hill Sentinels).

THE BATTLE FOR THE 1A ENSUES!!!!
Now that 26-27 football season has begun, all types of questions arise: Is this a new rivalry for Fort Hill? Is Patuxent the new threat to the 1A? Are we seeing a new states rivalry brewing like the 4A’s Wise and QO? Great questions, and I would say pay attention to how these great squads handle adversity throughout the season

SOME THINGS TO LOOK FOR!!!

Fort Hill – Watch if they continue to stay on brand being a running powerhouse. Or will the Sentinels add more passing? I have seen Fort Hill air it out before, but looking forward to whatever they choose. Also, watch if they continue being strong defensively putting pressure on offenses to make critical errors on downs.

Patuxent – Look how sophomore QB, Brayden Watson measures up this year. He is growing and we are seeing if he leads his team with more grit and grind. Check their dominant defense which was be hard to get by last year. When they lock, usually in the 2nd half, they become a nightmare to handle.
There are obviously more questions to ask, just be watching these two. I can say it looks like this rivalry is not going to disappear. There’s a battle ensuing for the 1A. I think we may see these two greats go at it for a while. But, anything can happen.
Best wishes to the Panthers and the Sentinels. Looking forward to your future successes.
