First off, Congratulations to all of the finalists that have made it to MPSSAA State Finals. That is an amazing accomplishment, and you guys all ought to be recognized.

HAVE YOU NOTICED?

Did you notice all of the Boys matchups for 2026 are the same ones from 2025? No, it is not some playoff conspiracy because there is absolutely no possible way that could even be orchestrated. I’ll tell you a little secret though, I had said to our team here MFVAllSportsNetwork that this was going to happen ( I told them there would be a lot of state repeat matches and returners next year). The reason for such a predication was based solely on the atmosphere set in the 2025 states. The sense was, particularly for the boys, teams wanted another shot at the matchup. I’ll attempt to explain in a little more detail by recapping each boys championship from 2025. Then you’ll have some understanding of why MFV thought in this manner. Truth is, no one possess any knowledge of who will or who will not make it. The efforts of hard work and discipline tend to pay off, but we understand anything can happen in a championship.

2025 1A MIDDLETOWN VS FALLSTON

It was quite clear the Fallston Cougars were the favored team in this matchup. They actually up 7 goals by halftime, leaving the Knights to only scoring 1 goal. It was assumed the game was over. HOWEVER, the Middletown team made the most spectacular comeback in LAX Championship history, holding the Cougars to one goal and winning within the last seconds, 9-8.

Fallston left that game with the mood of we got to get back here, and not let that happened again. I think sometimes we don’t realize how crazy our minds get when we have a thing in our hands, then we lose it. The Cougars have been pretty dominate in the 1A. Middletown, on the other hand now possessed the fire to return again. They were now a team to be reckoned with. They too needed to return to show they are a lacrosse powerhouse.

Both teams this year excelled in the state quarterfinals and semis. You could sense they are ready for this matchup. So we will see. Will it be pure domination, on both sides, or a battle of the century? Hmmmmm.


2025 2A STEPHEN DECATUR VS KENT ISLAND

This championship was brewing from the 2025 Bayside championship match that year. Decatur won 13-11, after previously losing to the Bucs in the regular season. This states was the proving ground for who was truly King of the Bayside. The rain was out strong, and the matchup was a grueling four quarters. Hard checking, and strong defense, made scoring hard. Plainly put, IT WAS A FIGHT. The victory went to Kent Island, winning by a goal, 13-12. Buccaneers left heads held high being they conquered another 2A state title. However, the Seahawks body language indicated this was not over. They would be back. They would return, yes, to face their foe again.

Amazingly, Kent Island defeated the Seahawks twice this season, the Bayside championship being the largest. Though if you have watched Stephen Decatur in their playoff run, they have been on a mission. They also took on several championship caliber teams earlier, to what seems to have prepared them for battle. In the semifinal matchup, the defeated an undefeated Huntingtown Hurricances, and it looks like they now have their eyes set on one more opponent!!!

Don’t think for a minute though Kent Island Bucs are sleeping. They have too been making a statements, almost like we are coming for our Bayside rival.

Who is going to prove their point in this match? Hmmmmmm


2025 3A TOWSON VS SEVERNA PARK

Who doesn’t know about the lacrosse powerhouse and factory, Severna Park. MFV was told this school has colleges looking at their JV players!!! And Towson, is the school that is not afraid to take on the Falcons. This championship in 2025 was a repeat competition from 2024. Falcons vs Generals has been a rivalry brewing, even to the point after Severna Park scored, the scorer turned to the General’s fans with his arms out like, “Whatcha gonna say now!!!!!” The championship game was intense. Severna Park won again, getting another title added to their long list of victories. They had the mood of going in to next year looking to prove they are the top LAX team in the state of Maryland.

Towson left states, upset by the loss. It appeared they wanted to get their revenge. They even said, in some many words or less, “they had no issues being the villains of lacrosse…” That is not surprising to MFV. We like that the Generals play with toughness, grit, and grind out on their opponents. THEY WIN often, so it makes sense for them to take such a role.

And going in to the playoffs, neither school has changed its focus. Now they’ve punched their ticket to Stevenson. BOTH are out to show who is the TOP team in Maryland LAX.

2025 4A BROADNECK VS URBANA

Broadneck and Urbana are two lacrosse powerhouses, two factories producing top notch players, and two bullies. Yes, LAX bullies, in the sense they dominate teams through out the season. And they are dangerous when playing mad. 2025 States was a war for them, and another repeat matchup from years before. A low scoring match, the Hawks gained the win, 5-2. And both left the match looking for a rematch in states again. Urbana wanting to be seen as the top dog, and Bruins looking to get back and show they are the BIG ONE!!!!

Doing the same this season as both have done in the past, they dominated teams. Playoffs, no different, scoring high looking in the direction of getting to Mustang Stadium. It gave a good sense these two would meet again.

What will the outcome be? Hmmmmmmm!!!!
